Weekly “Biggest Loser" Wellness Tips

Enjoy your Weekly “Biggest Loser: Body Composition Competition” Wellness Tip:

Here are some tips to get exercise whenever and wherever you can! Every little bit helps.
  • Try cleaning the living room, kitchen, or wash dishes while watching TV instead of sitting on the couch.
  • Try to limit your TV watching / stationary video game playing to no more than an hour a day. The less time in front of the TV that you spend, the more time you have to be up and active.
  • Don't be afraid to park a little farther away, getting in those extra steps everyday is good for your health!
  • Always take the stairs instead of the elevator. If you don't know where the stairs are, ask!
  • Take a 20-30 minute walk most days of the week; bring your dog, spouse, and/or your children.

Forget your lunch?

If you are at work and have forgotten your lunch, don't use that as an opportunity to go out to lunch or grab fast food. Instead, visit your local cafeteria or grocery store and make a healthier food choice!

POPCORN!!! - A healthy snack!

It's hard to believe a snack food that tastes so good can actually be good for you! With suggestions from organizations such as the National Cancer Institute (NCI), the American Dental Association (ADA) and the American Dietetic Association (ADA), there's no doubt popcorn is a perfectly sensible snack to fit into any meal/fitness plan.

  • Air-popped popcorn has only 31 calories per cup; oil-popped popcorn has only 55 calories per cup.
  • Popcorn is a whole grain, making it a good-for-you food. Popcorn provides energy-producing complex carbohydrates
  • Popcorn contains fiber, providing roughage the body needs in the daily diet.
  • Popcorn is naturally low in fat and calories.
  • Popcorn has no artificial additives or preservatives, and is sugar-free.
  • Popcorn is ideal for between meal snacking since it satisfies and doesn't spoil the appetite.
  • 3 cups of popcorn equal one serving from the grain group.

Frozen meals can be your friend!

If your on the run and do not have time to make your lunch, a frozen meal can be a great alternative to going out to eat, or getting fast food. Make sure you check the Nutritional panel for calories, fat, and sodium. Kashi, Healthy Choice, and Amy's offer some healthy, all natural frozen meals. Some other to choose from are Lean Cuisine and Smart Ones, which all average out to be a little over $2 a piece. Keep in mind frozen meals are good alternative, but should not be a staple in your diet.
